Attractive gold summer foliage with tinges of pink and red in fall; bright red stems are a great feature during the dormant season; best color in part shade as foliage can scorch in full sun while leaves darken in full shade

Ornamental Features

Garden Glow Dogwood has attractive chartreuse deciduous foliage on a plant with an upright spreading habit of growth. The glossy pointy leaves are highly ornamental and turn an outstanding red in the fall. It has clusters of white flowers at the ends of the branches in late spring. It produces white berries in mid summer. The red branches are extremely showy and add significant winter interest.

Landscape Attributes

Garden Glow Dogwood is a dense multi-stemmed deciduous shrub with an upright spreading habit of growth. Its average texture blends into the landscape, but can be balanced by one or two finer or coarser trees or shrubs for an effective composition.

This is a relatively low maintenance shrub, and is best pruned in late winter once the threat of extreme cold has passed. It has no significant negative characteristics.

Garden Glow Dogwood is recommended for the following landscape applications;

  • Mass Planting
  • Hedges/Screening
  • General Garden Use
  • Naturalizing And Woodland Gardens

Planting & Growing

Garden Glow Dogwood will grow to be about 5 feet tall at maturity, with a spread of 5 feet. It tends to fill out right to the ground and therefore doesn't necessarily require facer plants in front, and is suitable for planting under power lines. It grows at a medium rate, and under ideal conditions can be expected to live for approximately 15 years.

This shrub should be grown in a location with partial shade or which is shaded from the hot afternoon sun. It does best in average to evenly moist conditions, but will not tolerate standing water. It is not particular as to soil type or pH. It is highly tolerant of urban pollution and will even thrive in inner city environments. This is a selected variety of a species not originally from North America.
